ABOUT
The Conejos Water Conservancy District (CWCD) is a water conservancy district in southern Colorado, located in Conejos county. Our district, like all conservancy districts, holds a number of responsibilities. We function as a local instrument of the state government, and can acquire and sell water, construct projects pertinent to water resources, contract with the federal government to carry out water projects, and oversee and promote an efficient and adequate water supply. We have a board of directors, each from a different background of water use, who govern the district. The CWCD covers about 100,000 acres, approximately 88,000 of which are irrigated. We also manage operations of Platoro Reservoir for the Bureau of Reclamation. While honoring and upholding commitments to the Rio Grande Compact of 1938, we work to keep up with the challenges and changes of water in the district and ensure needs are met as we move forward.
